Dr. Cousins’ clinical experience spans 25+ years as a private practitioner in the Greater Montreal Region. For 29 years he served as Psychologist and Department Head at Summit School for the Developmentally Disabled.

Additionally, he has worked as a research consultant and lead therapist at The Montreal Children’s Hospital Department of Psychiatry (MCH). His work on the team at MCH predominantly focused on identifying effective multi-modal treatments for children and adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Presently, Dr. Cousins works with children, youth, and adults in his private practice here at the Applied Learning Center. Specifically, he helps patients with ADHD, learning disabilities, disruptive behaviour, anxiety, depression, anger management, stress, self-esteem, self-confidence, and parenting issues. Together with Dr. Terry Viola, he organizes and carries out comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations for ADHD and Learning Disabilities across the life span.

Dr. Cousins treats individuals and families using an eclectic approach that includes functional analytic, cognitive-behavioural, mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) and solution focused therapies. He endeavours to create a therapeutic atmosphere that is both warm and safe for patients to explore their feelings, behaviors, and new ways of thinking about themselves and the world.
