  • How do I know if I really need to be in therapy?

    If there has been a dramatic change in your life (or even if you have been struggling with one or more things for a while), your emotional state may be affected in a negative way. This can easily result in mood changes and a dramatic drop in your quality of day to day functioning.
  • How long is a typical session and how many times a week should I see a therapist?

    Sessions typically last 45-50 minutes. In some instances, as well as in the case of couple and family therapy, it is not unusual for double sessions to be booked. The number and frequency of sessions depends on what your current needs are. With consultation from your therapist, a treatment plan will be created that best suits your agreed upon needs.
  • How long should I be in therapy?

    The length of time spent in therapy largely depends on the nature of the problem and the identified goals. Some individuals have a very specific problem that can be worked through in a course of brief therapy. Other individuals see therapy as an on-going learning process and choose to be involved in therapy for a longer period. Historically, with a cognitively based therapeutic approach, the time spent in therapy is considerably much shorter than the traditional, analytically based therapeutic orientations.
  • Are therapy sessions confidential?

    All therapy sessions are completely confidential within the confines of the law. Confidentiality is a critical part of the therapeutic process and ensuring the privacy of personal information is an essential component of our work. It is essential that you have complete trust in your therapist In order for there to be progress in therapy. That trust will permit the discussion of intimate information where necessary without concern that those details will be revealed to anyone else without your expressed permission.
  • What are the fees for therapy?

    Psychological services are not covered by the Quebec Health Insurance Plan (Medicare). However, as licensed psychologists with the Order of Professional Psychologists of Quebec (OPQ), we are equipped to provide receipts for reimbursement for those that have extended health benefits through employee and private health insurance plans, which provide full or partial coverage for services provided by a registered psychologist. You are encouraged to check with your insurer regarding coverage and whether or not your plan requires a physician referral. Additionally, psychological services are a tax deductible medical expense. Individuals on long term disability plans may also be eligible for psychological services. Our fees are charged on a per session basis and in accordance with the guidelines set by the OPQ. Please contact us to obtain the current fee.
  • When do I pay?

    Payment for services is due at the end of each session, unless otherwise agreed upon. Cash and cheque (and in some instances with online services, Pay Pal) are accepted methods of payment.
  • What about cancellations or missed appointments?

    Attending regularly scheduled appointments is critical for therapy to be successful. However, there are unforeseen events which occasionally occur that forces a cancellation. The policy for cancellation of an appointment without being responsible for payment is 24 hours in advance (with the exception of extenuating circumstances).
  • Does insurance or Medicare cover the fees for psychological services?

    Medicare does not cover the fees for private psychological services that the ALC provides. However all the professionals are licensed by their Provincial Professional Orders, which permit them to issue tax deductible receipts. Additionally, most extended health insurance plans will provide some coverage for fees paid for psychological services. It is recommended that you consult with the professional to whom you were referred or assigned and discuss the fees as well as any remuneration process to which you may have access.
  • Do I need a referral to access your services?

    No, anyone who wishes to make an appointment (can simply) merely click on Make An Appointment and enter your desired professional's email address (or info@appliedlearningcenter.com) if you do not have a specific professional in mind) in the appropriate box and your request will be processed within 48 hours.
  • What can I expect in my first session?

    The initial session is considered an intake consultation appointment. The goal of this session is to understand the nature of your complaint(s), the severity of the symptoms you are experiencing, the history of your complaint(s) and (how) your life is or was affected, as well as whatever attempts you have made to overcome these difficulties. A general history of your psychological health will also be reviewed. In many cases, you may be asked to fill out some questionnaires to provide the professional with more detailed information about your life history. The intake interview may take one or more sessions. Following the intake interview(s), a mandate will be established for therapy, where the professional will inform you or his or her understanding of the information obtained and the goals and objectives of therapy as well as any recommendations as to how to proceed. You will be informed of how the professional intends to proceed and what you should expect about the therapeutic process. Moreover, this meeting is also your opportunity to meet your therapist, ask any questions that you may have and discuss the concerns or personal goals that led you to consider therapy. This initial appointment will provide you with your therapist’s assessment recommendations as well as a first-hand experience of their style and approach as a therapist.
  • How long will therapy last?

    Each individual is unique and consequently, the length of therapy depends on you and your needs, motives, wishes and expectations for change.
  • Is your building accessible for those individuals with mobility issues?

    Yes, there is an elevator for access to the building.
