ADDICTION

The term addiction refers to an inability to control negative habitual behaviors. More often than not they have to do with the inability to control substance abuse. Substances such as drugs (alcohol, illegal drugs, prescription drugs, over the counter medication, tobacco, marijuana, opiates (codeine, morphine, heroine), stimulants such as amphetamines, cocaine, coffee and, in some cases the overuse of stimulant drinks are typical substances to which individuals can become addicted. One can also abuse of hallucinogens such as LSD, ecstasy and PCP. Another type of addiction is the inability to control gambling behavior whether through card playing, betting on sports, or the use of gambling terminals.
Therapy, although understandably difficult, has been demonstrated to be effective using cognitive/behavioral principles and solution-focused therapy. These therapies help the person get back the control of your life in a safe and predictable manner.
