PHOBIA
WHAT IS A PHOBIA?
A phobia is an irrational or exaggerated fear of a specific object, activity, or situation that in reality presents little to no danger. One can develop a phobic response to virtually anything, but the most common phobias are of certain animals (e.g., snakes, spiders, etc.), of flying, and of heights. Anxiety levels typically spike to extremely high levels when an individual is confronted with the phobic situation, and will desperately attempt to avoid the fearful object or situation.
